Stargirl is a TV show on the CW started in 2020 about the DC comic book character of the same name, as she leads the new Justice Society of America (a.k.a. the JSA). This show stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore / Stargirl, Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez / Wildcat, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel / Doctor Mid-Nite, Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler / Hourman, and Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan / S.T.R.I.P.E... Some reoccurring cast members include Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton / Starman, Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Rex Tyler / the original Hourman (NOTE: yes, Lou Ferrigno Jr. is the son of the actor from The Incredible Hulk TV series, which ran from 1977-1982), Brian Stapf as Ted Grant / the original Wildcat, Henry Thomas and Alex Collins as Charles McNider / the original Doctor Mid-Nite, and Ethan Embry as Johnny Thunder... DC author Geoff Johns (the creator of Stargirl) is very involved with this show... Despite being a DC show on the CW, this show is not set on the same Earth as Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Superman and Lois, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, or Black Lightning (yet this show is still considered a part of the Arrowverse, because those shows include the story of the multiverse).

John Wesley Shipp is an actor who should be extremely familiar to any fans of Flash. From 1990 to 1991, Shipp starred as Barry Allen on the TV show the Flash. In 2010, Shipp did the voice of Professor Zoom for one episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold (an episode called Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster!). When the current Flash show started in 2014, Shipp played Henry Allen (the father of Barry). By the end of Season 2 of this show, Shipp also played Jay Garrick (a.k.a. the Golden Age Flash), who in this version of the story is a doppelganger of Barry's father Henry Allen. In Season 5's crossover event "Elseworlds," Shipp reprised his role as Barry Allen of the 1990 show (who here was referred to as the "Earth 90 Flash")... And, yes, I realize how confusing this is.

In Stargirl's first season, we saw brief images of Jay Garrick in photos and paintings (as the character is a key part of the Justice Society), but the face was never recognizable. For season 2, it was announced that the 9th episode of the season, titled "Summer School: Chapter Nine," would include the character of Jay Garrick. And he was to be played by none other than John Wesley Shipp himself... Would he be playing the same same Jay Garrick here that he plays on the Flash? Would he wear a new costume? Would this link the two shows in any way? These are just a few of many questions that fans had up until the episode aired... And now that it has aired, this video offers my take. So please watch it, like it, and leave your comments below. Thank you.
