Paul Graviano has been the owner of "Bonsai of Brooklyn" (a Bonsai store) in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn, New York for over 45 years. Paul was originally trained in the art of taking care of Bonsai trees by Japanese immigrant Frank Okamura at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, but has been studying them in countless other ways for decades. I could not have hoped to find someone more passionate and knowledgeable about Bonsai trees than Paul.

The Karate Kid is a classic movie from 1984 starring Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi, Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills, William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence and Martin Kove as Sensei John Kreese. Directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Robert Mark Kamen. In 1986, there was The Karate Kid II, which had Yuji Okumoto as Chozen, Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko, and Danny Kamekona as Sato. In 1989, there was The Karate Kid Part III, which had Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver, Sean Kanan as Mike Barnes, and Robyn Lively as Jessica Andrews. In 1994, there was The Next Karate Kid, which starred Hilary Swank as Julie Pierce and Michael Ironside as Colonel Dugan. In 2018, a TV series called Cobra Kai was started - which brought back many of the original cast members reprising their roles, as well as newcomers Xolo Maridueña as Miguel Diaz , Tanner Buchanan as Robby Keene, Mary Mouser as Samantha LaRusso, Jacob Bertrand as Eli 'Hawk' Moskowitz, and Peyton List as Tory Nichols.

Bonsai trees are a huge part of the Karate Kid saga - as that is a major passion of Mr. Miyagi's. The character Mr. Miyagi learned to take care of Bonsai trees back in his home town of Tomi Village, Okinawa, in Japan (where he also learned Miyagi-Do Karate and fishing). However, I - along with many other fans of Karate Kid and Cobra Kai - know very little about Bonsai trees. So I asked Paul if he'd be willing to do an interview for my YouTube channel discussing how accurate he felt the portrayal of Bonsai trees were in Karate Kid movies, any trivia he could tell about Bonsai trees in Karate Kid movies, and more basic info on Bonsai trees in general. Paul was nice enough to say yes, and take the time to do this interview. So here it is. Please watch and leave your comments below.

This video ends with some bonus trivia about Cobra Kai actor Jesse Kove (son of Martin Kove) and the famous L & B Spumoni Gardens pizzeria in Brooklyn.
