Mare of Easttown episode 2 just debuted on HBO and HBO Max. Mare and Colin continue to look for leads in the death of Erin McMenamin. They find out that she was not sexually assaulted from the medical examiner, and that the time of death indicates that the murder happened within 2 hours after the fight in the woods.

Drew’s mother Carrie is filing for full custody now that she’s in recovery. Mare threatens to use her mental illness against her in court rather than working together to work out an arrangement where they can both see her grandson. Carrie tells her that her son Kevin hated her, and this prompts Mare to do everything she can to stop her. She decides to use her position at the police station to try to set Carrie up, and is eventually caught when the plan backfires on her.

Mare being put on administrative leave was the big cliffhanger in episode 3. Now she will not be able to work the case, after making some progress with Colin. They had located the crime scene, and found a bullet that ricocheted and wound up lodged in a tree.

Siobhan is working on a documentary about her brother. Frank admitted to helping Erin after Kevin died, but denied any wrongdoing. Dylan’s parents convinced him to get a paternity test as well, after the rumor that he wasn’t DJ’s real father surfaced.
