Mare of Easttown episode 4 just debuted on HBO and HBO Max. Mare Sheehan has been suspended and tells her family what she did to Carrie. She follows through on going to see the therapist but doesn’t stop working on Erin’s case on her own.

Dawn is contacted by someone who says Katie wants to come home. It sounds like a scam, Beth tells her the same, but she still is compelled to find out who the caller is. She follows instructions but learns that it’s a hoax by Beth’s addicted brother Freddie.

The big development in episode 4 is that we learn that Katie is still alive. She’s being held in a soundproof room where a newly missing girl, Missy Sager, is taken after she’s abducted. Missy was using an escort site called Sidedoor, and the kidnapper seems to be using the site to abduct young women.

Mare and Colin learn that Erin also made a Sidedoor page when they visit her friend Jess. She helped her put the page together, but didn’t believe that Erin ever met anyone in real life. Mare goes looking for her journals but finds a golden necklace instead.
