Mare of Easttown is a limited series that just debuted on HBO. We’re introduced to detective sergeant Mare Sheehan, and her hometown of Easttown, Pennsylvania. Mare is a local hero for a shot she made in a state championship basketball game 25 years ago. She lives at home with her mother and daughter, and raises her grandson whose parents don’t make an appearance in the premiere episode.

Times are hard in Easttown, and Mare has an unsolved missing person case that has plagued her for a year. By the end of the first episode another young woman goes missing. Erin is a single mother who is tricked by her ex’s new partner, and lured to the local hangout spot where she’s beaten up. After she walks off into the woods alone her dead body is discovered in a local creek the next morning.

In the small town everyone knows everyone else, and everyone feels like a potential suspect. It’s a tight knit community, and Mare’s personal connections may get in the way of her investigation. It’s not clear if there’s a connection between the two young missing women.
