If you’re using social media as a way to share content, grow your community and engage with others, eventually you will encounter criticism. The more you put yourself out there, the more people will love and appreciate what you do, and a few won’t.

Your critics always have the option of scrolling past your page and ignoring your content. But there will always be those who won’t choose either one of those options. Some will make the effort to sit down and compose a nasty, critical statement that they then post on your feed. You probably don’t know them. They are simply keyboard warriors who spend their days criticizing instead of contributing.

That being said, we still have freedom of speech. They may have the right to express their opinion, but you don’t have the obligation to respond. Chances are, you’re not going to change their mind. Responding to unfair and ugly comments can appear to give validity to their criticism.

Instead, remind yourself of how confident you are of your abilities. You don’t need to justify what you do to anyone, especially strangers on the internet. Stand strong. Focus on what you know. And continue to contribute to those who appreciate you and find tremendous value in what you have to share.
