For All Mankind season 2 episode 7 has been released on Apple TV+. We picked up with Thomas Paine (Dan Donohue) and Ellen (Jodi Balfour) getting ready to fly to Seoul for a meeting. Ellen gets a call that her father has had a heart attack, and she leaves to go be with him. Paine continues to Korea, but is flying on KAL 007 which is shot down after crossing into restricted Soviet airspace.

Much of episode 7 deals with the aftermath of the KAL 007 tragedy. Margo Madison (Wrenn Schmidt), Molly Cobb (Sonya Walger), and General Bradford (John Marshall Jones) meet with Ellen who is now the acting director of NASA. They discuss what might have happened to Paine’s flight.

Tensions are now at an all time high between the US and the Soviet Union. Dani (Krys Marshall) is confined to her room in Star City, and communications are cut off by the two governments. Dani gets a visitor that doesn’t reveal his name, but it’s clear by what he tells her that he’s Sergei Korolev. Korolev was the driving force behind the Soviet space program that died in our timeline. In the For All Mankind alternate timeline his survival helped to keep the Soviets ahead of NASA in the Space Race.

In episode 7 Karen (Shantel VanSanten) decides to sell the Outpost to Sam Cleveland. She has a beer to celebrate with Danny Stevens, and he makes a move on her. They kiss, but she ends up leaving and going home to her husband Ed (Joel Kinnaman). Their adopted daughter Kelly (Cynthy Wu) gets information on her biological family.

On the Moon the marines ask Tracy (Sarah Jones) to pilot the LSAM for their mission to take back the mining site. The timeline has been moved up, and she’s the most qualified pilot for the job. They arrive at the site armed and ready to fight for it if necessary, but there are only two unarmed cosmonauts who have no choice but to flee. For now things are resolved, but it probably isn’t the end of the conflict.
