Atwater Village has the distinction of bordering the L.A River, providing opportunities for Kayaking and cycling. Nearby Griffith Park also offers a myriad of trails for hiking and horseback riding.

Once considered simply a working class neighborhood, Atwater Village has become hugely popular with people who have been priced out of neighboring Los Feliz and Silver Lake. There has been an influx of younger buyers and entertainment professionals drawn to the character homes on tree-lined streets and the neighborhood feel. Boutiques, shops, restaurants and even a micro-brewery have popped up in Atwater in response to the changing demographics but you’ll still find old favorites like the landmark Tam O'Shanter Inn Restaurant built in 1922.

Most Atwater village homes were built between the 1920’s and 1940’s. Atwater Village homes run the gamut from the well know “fantasy bungalows” on Brunswick, to Spanish, Tutor and California bungalows, many of which retain much of their original architectural details. With the advent of Los Angeles’ small lot subdivision ordinance in 2004, Atwater Village has seen new construction of larger homes on small lots such as the glass and steel architectural homes at Casitas Crossing.
