Most BMWs have a hidden menu in their on board computer and this BMW i3 is no different. The cool part is that you get to see state of charge, battery capacity in kWh and state of health of your battery through this menu that you normally get to see. More importantly you can enable roller mode which is basically 'drift mode' for this car since it disables all driver aids. You can also see the temperature and other statistics about the high voltage battery, about the range extender unit and other parts of the car. You can also test the dashboard to make sure all lights and LEDs are working as expected. Lastly, you can adjust the compensation the car makes for the displayed economy rating while driving making sure your i3 always shows accurate consumption.

Calculating Compensation #:
If you calculated that your car is getting 4.1mi/kWh, but car shows 3.9mi/kWh you are off by 4.88% (0.2/4.1x100=4.88%).

Once you are in the hidden menu, you will notice that the factory default is 1000, so if you need to adjust it by 4.88%, it would become 951 instead of the 1000 (1000-4.88%=951.2).

List of hidden service menu items:
To enter the service menu, hold the trip reset button for 10 seconds. Every press after that is a "next' and to select an item, you press and hold the same button down.

To begin with you have only these options available:

1 Identification
1.01 Conv. Index (1/mls)
1.02 SWFL 1
1.03 VIN
1.04 HMI Version
2 System test
3 Start roller
4 Init BC, range
9 Test end
10 Unlock

To unlock the following menus, you will need the VIN from 1.03 above. Add the last FOUR digits together (other BMW models require adding the last five digits) to get your unlock code. e.g if your VIN is L12345, your code is 2+3+4+5=14.
