Your calf muscles play a very important role in both propelling you forward during walking and keeping you balanced. Exercising your calf muscles is an essential component of balance training, and you need to challenge your calves with legs extended AND with knees bent.

This is exactly what we do in this short yoga practice. We zoom in on your calves and strengthen them in three positions: legs straight, in transition from legs straight to bent knees, and with knees bent. We challenge your calves (and your entire body) in a balancing lunge pose; be sure to keep your front knee stable to protect it. If your balance is feeling a bit iffy, be sure to stand next to a wall or steady chair, just in case you need additional support.
