We follow Arif Kurtcu, a child protection & mental health and psychosocial support officer for Save The Children as he goes about his work in and around Antakya.

The city of Antakya and the surrounding regions were among the worst hit by the earthquakes that struck Türkiye in February 2023.

Arif, who is Turkish, and other staff from Save The Children provide a range of support and assistance for those who have been impacted by the earthquakes.

In his role, Arif engages with children and adults in a range of ways - including play - in order to provide mental health and psychosocial support.

Over the course of the day, Arif takes us from waking up at the community centre within Antakya - where the staff both work and sleep - through to visiting a village outside the city with colleagues to provide opportunity for play and support for children. We then head back to the office with Arif where he finishes off the day's work before enjoying a bit of his own rest and recuperation in the form of relaxing with a cat adopted by the team and its newborn kittens.
