Before the pandemic, Peter and Faustina Phiri were attending sessions at an early childhood development hub in Zambia where they received guidance on supporting their children's wellbeing. “Having attended a couple of parenting sessions with my wife at the hub gave us lots of insights on parenting and an understanding of why children behave as they do and also knowledge on age-appropriate games,” says Peter.
Thanks to community-based volunteers, parenting sessions have safely continued during COVID-19. To give children the best start in life, governments must increase investment in parenting programmes and put in place policies to protect families, during and beyond the pandemic.
