When narcissist attempts to extract narcissistic supply or to engage in oneupmanship by talking or by acting, s/he dissociates the environment: forgets other tasks, fails to register what others are saying, is non-responsive to cues and stimuli, and behaves asocially or even antisocially. This is known as hyperfocus, (negative) flow, or attentional narrowing.
