When you become focused on your shortcomings, which only leads to self criticism and judgment. This self critical view hurts your motivation and your relationship with yourself. The investment of time and discipline that's needed for self improvement and personal development needs self-love.

The first step in the process of building a healthy relationship with yourself is self-exploration. People often assume that they know themselves, when they often look at themselves through the lens of other people. Self discovery is important to understand yourself more deeply - so you can understand your strengths and weaknesses. This helps you accept yourself holistically, and not get fixated on your shortcomings, or things that you want to fix about yourself.

This self love can only be built on the foundation of self-acceptance. Your self growth and self improvement can only come from this foundation of self acceptance. You feel happy about who you are, despite your shortcomings because you see your overall value. It's this happiness that motivates you to improve yourself even further and recognize your true potential. You start to grow yourself into an even better version of yourself - in life and relationships. And all this personal development, comes from you having a better and healthier relationship with yourself.
