"CAMELEON - The poachers of Mozambique" / The Limpopo Park in Mozambique is one of the largest animal reserves in Africa. A vast and wild territory, where the “big 5” live: elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, rhinoceroses.
But for several years, ivory trafficking and acts of poaching have increased there. In the last 10 years, more than half of animals have been killed by poachers. A kilo of ivory is worth 6,000 euros and a complete rhino horn is worth up to 65,000 euros. Enough to spark vocations.
A special anti-poaching unit was created a year and a half ago to try to stem the traffic. Rangers patrol the park and relentlessly pursue poachers. A difficult fight, against unscrupulous men, ready to kill for a few kilos of ivory.
It is in this hostile universe that Sebastian will immerse himself in. He will share the daily life of the rangers and that of Arturo, their leader. Former commander of Special Forces in the Portuguese army, he leads his team of rangers with an iron fist through the savannah and the bush.
Arturo will explain to Sebastian the very specific techniques he has developed to track down poachers: checkpoints and ambushes every day, tracking at night in the bush, among wild animals, snakes and the many dangers of the reserve.
Sebastian then embarks with Manuel, Arturo's deputy, for a risky patrol on the Elephant River. The local fishermen have become the poachers' informers. They transport tusks, horns, lion teeth and even hippopotamus meat on their boats.
To understand the motivations of elephant killers, Sebastian will also meet a repentant poacher, who killed 13 elephants and 7 rhinos.
As the days pass, Sebastian and the rangers will follow the trail of the ivory traffickers, through the bush and on the river, until the final arrest of a group of poachers.
