Costa Concordia... a name that still resounds heavily in people's heads. A cruise ship that capsized and sank, while carrying twice as many passengers as the Titanic.

The disaster wasn't caused by bad weather or engine problems. So how could a ship that big go down on the night of January 12th 2012, killing 32 people?

Beyond the indelible images seen all around the globe, few people know what really happened technically on the command bridge or in the ship's engine room that night. We looked beyond the disaster, going behind the scenes of the most daunting salvage operation ever launched, as hundreds of engineers and naval architects spent more than two years working to right and refloat the Costa Concordia. The engineers had to race against the clock to carry off this amazing feat. They orchestrated a colossal salvage project to limit the damage from one of the most staggering shipwrecks the world has ever seen.

A shipwreck that turned a luxury cruise ship into a gigantic hunk of steel that veered out of control.
