The hybrid-only Yaris Cross is a surprisingly big, practical and efficient SUV. But can it take on the likes of the Ford Puma and Peugeot 2008?

It may be called a Yaris and is built on the same underpinnings as its sibling, but the crossover looks almost completely different to the supermini. It rides higher, has completely new bumpers front and rear, and even the lights aren't shared with the regular Yaris. It's powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 116hp. That's coupled with a hybrid system that will give you short spurts of electric running at low speed and will charge itself up on the go so you don't have to plug it in. And with prices starting below £25,000 it looks like a bit of a bargain, so should you buy a new Toyota Yaris Cross?
