Grocery stores are the heart of rural communities, often serving as hubs for news and social interactions. Independently owned grocery stores have struggled for decades to remain open due to people moving out of their communities, owners reaching retirement age, and competition with big box stores. Lawmakers in Nebraska and Iowa have taken notice and are considering legislation to provide resources to these small business owners.

On this episode of the Rural Rapport, Mitchell Schlegelmilch and Tom Mulholland join us to discuss the legislation and the importance of locally owned grocery stores.
