Jorge Velasquez has always liked working with his hands and has wanted to own a business since he lived in San Pedro Sula Atlántida, Honduras.

After moving to the U.S. in 2007, he started working at meatpacking plants. In search of something better, he found work in construction where he learned about installing floors.

Even though he faced a language barrier and lacked some information on how to open a business, he continued learning more about the trade in floor installation.

Jorge then started working for a floor supply store. He got to a point where he had enough knowledge and felt comfortable in starting George Flooring Installation, LLC, based out of South Sioux City, Nebraska.

With the help of a workshop hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs, he learned about accounting and bookkeeping for small businesses at his local library.

A lesson he shares with other aspiring entrepreneurs is to face your fears, a tip he passes down to his son who works with him.
