Back in 2012, Stephen Axford stumbled across a very unusual blue mushroom in the sub-tropical forests of northern NSW in Australia. It looked more like a truffle than the usual gilled mushroom. He sampled it and shipped it off to mycologists Dr Tom May and Dr Teresa Lebel in Victoria. That was eight years ago. It is still undergoing DNA sequencing with a scientific investigation that has had many twists and turns and the mushroom is still unnamed ... stay tuned.
