Mare of Easttown episode 5 just debuted on HBO and HBO Max. Mare and Colin finally get a break in the Katie Bailey case, but things turn tragic when they go to arrest the kidnapper. While Mare is able to rescue the girls and take out the kidnapper, it comes at the price of detective Colin Zabel’s life.

There are several developments in Erin’s case, but most of those pose more questions than they answer at this point in the story. We learn that Brianna knows that Dylan left his house on the night Erin was killed. We know that Deacon Mark told Father Dan that he was with her on that night too and that he drove her to Brandywyne Park. Dylan is also conspiring with her best friend Jess, and they destroy Erin’s journals together.

Mare is still suspended from the police force, but with Colin out of the picture that may be cause for the Chief to bring her back to work. In the meantime, she’s been going to therapy and working on her issues related to her son Kevin’s suicide.

The Ross family appears to have their own secrets which will likely be helpful in Erin’s case. Lori learned that her husband John was cheating on her, and as viewers, we learned that Erin lived with her cousin Billy Ross.
