Make Your Own Tallow and stop paying high prices for it.
You can do it for FREE

If you want to know how to make Tallow yourself, vs buying it, this video will show you how.

The filters in the video are deep fryer oil filters.

WHAT IS IS USED FOR:
Energy for your outside dogs and cats in the winter,
Suet for birds,
Energy and nutrition for your chickens in the winter,
And at 130 calories per teaspoon, you COULD use it as survival food, especially in winter.
Mixing with other meats that don't have enough fat like elk.
People are using it as a high caloric food and as a health supplement.
After 100+ years, it is now used again as a skin care product again made into creams and lotions.
It can be turned into the oldest type of hand soap (Tallow Soap) and its popularity is now coming back.
It is also made into skin and lip balms.
And as I said in the video, it makes very long lasting candles, albeit the smell of these candles, smells like cooking hamburger or a deep fryer vs the paraffin wax smell of commercial candle wax

WHERE CAN YOU GET IT
If you have a small hometown abattoir (slaughterhouse) near you, you can usually get big chunks of beef fat for free, mostly they discard it. Large meat processing plants sell every part of the animal.
Also, ask your local butcher. They can get it for you from the slaughterhouse but you'll pay a per pound rate for it...
I have heard that it goes for over $1/lb and that is not rendered, clarified or filtered.
You can also buy it in buckets at your local grocery store and online and this is already rendered, clarified and filtered.

Tallow is a trans fat, one of the worst fats you can put in your body, but there is a trend nowadays where people are eating more and more of it.
It is common in your hamburger and steaks.

When we harvest Elk, they are so lean and have so little fat in their meat, we typically have to add 10-12% beef Tallow to the ground elk-burger meat to get it to stick together when cooking. Without the beef Tallow, the elk burger just falls into tiny little particles as it cooks.
Also without beef Tallow mixed in, you can't cook elk burgers on the grill or even keep them together to get onto a bun...
Elk burger with and without beef Tallow does make a to die for Meatloaf, Ms Chrissie makes this for me about once a month.

WHAT IS TALLOW
Tallow is rendered and purified fat from ruminant animals like; cattle, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, deer, elk, moose and caribou

Each animals fat has a particular taste associated with that animal so I don't recommend mixing the fats if YOU are going to consume them, but for other animal uses, mixing is okay.

Pigs are not ruminants and Rendering PIG fat makes LARD not TALLOW

HOW LONG WILL IT LAST
In its raw form, at room temperature, it will go rancid and spoil within days but if you render, clarify and filter it, it will last indefinitely in the Freezer.
It will last up to a year on the counter and up to 2 years in the fridge, but storing it in vacuum bags in the freezer will keep it for years.
