More investors want to place their own trades but still want "some" advice to help prevent some basic investing errors. But for the most part, if you want to execute your own trades it's difficult to get advice on your portfolio because most Discount Brokerage platforms operate under what's called an OEO model (Order Execution Only). If you want advice on your portfolio you'll either have to delegate completely to a robo-advisor's turn-key portfolios or use a human advisor.

This is where "hybrid investing" is likely poised to fill in this market gap. We've seen an explosion of investors opening up discount brokerage accounts and sometimes they make basic portfolio errors. Hybrid investing seems like a fast growing service: you place your own trades, but you get access to light investing advice. It's not as comprehensive as a human, but that's the tradeoff. It's light advice at lighter costs.
