The process of writing a research proposal needed by grant funding government agencies such as NSF, DST, NIH and universities, and academic and research institutions is given. The national science foundation (NSF) approach to writing a proposal is used. The advantage of writing a good research proposal for the development of science, technology and scholarship is elucidated. The importance of following the request for proposal (RFP) guidelines meticulously while drafting the research proposal is pointed out.
