More than 1 million Australian women live with type 2 diabetes, and a further 1 million have prediabetes. It is the fastest-growing chronic condition globally, but there is little information about the unique symptoms, risks and management for women. For example, type 2 diabetes increases the risk of heart disease by about four times in women but only about two times in men, and women have worse outcomes after a heart attack. Women are also at higher risk of other diabetes-related complications such as blindness, kidney disease, and depression.

So why aren’t we talking about the early warning signs of type 2 diabetes? How can we help women better manage their condition? And, most importantly, how do we help women with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes into remission?

Join leading low carb specialist and women’s health expert Dr Deepa Mahananda as she talks to Defeat Diabetes founder Dr Peter Brukner OAM about the 7 things she wishes her female patients knew about type 2 diabetes.
