All foods that we eat cause necessary oxidative stress in the body.

But when we give our bodies a break from eating, it is then able to go into a more catabolic state where it can clean up dead and cancerous cells, undigested proteins, and other pathogens.

Anywhere from 25-40% of our daily energy goes to digestion and fasting enables us to take back that energy and use it for other systems in the body.

Where people go wrong is that they think just because fasting is good for you that they should do it all of the time. However, the goal is to balance periods of anabolism (growth) with periods of catabolism (break down) so that we can maintain a healthy and balanced body.
