My old pride of Madeira or Echium has been in front of my window for around 15 years, as it grew older, it got top-heavy and fell over multiple times hence the unusual shape and support. This winter we had some serious wind and rain, and it fell over for the last time, it’s time to remove it. I need to dig up the space anyways for water control and drainage so it’s a good time for this to be done. Although I’m sad for it to go as the flowers are beautiful and bring in all sorts of beneficial insects, I have plenty more of these on my property and will fill the space with something equally beautiful and productive.  I’m able to use the wood for firewood and mulch the tops and leaves.
