19.09.2022 - A4 near Cologne, Germany - Drivers cab ripped off the chassis after collision

On monday (19.09.2022), a semi truck, loaded with turf, crashed on the A4 near Cologne, Germany into a standing semi truck on the hard shoulder. The drivers cab was ripped off the chassis and landed between trees on the right side of the motorway. Firefighters extricated the driver out of his cabin and transported him with severe injuries into a hospital. An emergency doctor from the rescue helicopter went with him in the ambulance. The driver of the standing truck was transported with minor injuries to another hospital.

A specialised collision investigation team (VU-Team) secured the evidence on the scene.

A local recovery company towed both trucks. The chassis, engine and drivers cabine had to be loaded onto a flatbed, the trailer was still rollable and towed. The recovery lasted into the night.
