High Intensity Interval Training, otherwise known as HIIT training, involves a high intensity activity followed by a brief period of rest. Typically, a HIIT workout will range from 10 to 30 minutes in duration.
Although these workouts can be shorter, they have considerable benefits such as weight loss, increased metabolism which can lead to fat burning, promotion of lean muscle mass and has been shown to boost longevity in some instances.

The actual activity being performed varies but can include sprinting, biking, jump rope or other body weight exercises such as push ups or squats

This video demonstrates a Tabata style workout which consists of 20 seconds of activity followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated for 8 sets. This results in a workout that is only 4 minutes. Be sure to warm up adequately before these high intensity workouts.
