A Microaffirmation Approach Toward Understanding Mental Health and Well-being Among Black Male College Students.
This presentation discusses depression as a mental health challenge Black male college students face during their undergraduate experiences and its relationship with everyday discrimination in college settings. Microaffirmations as an approach to promoting positive well-being are introduced as a framework that can potentially ameliorate depressive symptoms for this student population. Findings from a national survey study are shared and discussed with attendees. This course concludes with a discussion of research and practice implications for social work professionals, especially those in higher education settings.

Presented by James M. Ellis, PhD, MSW, Assistant Professor, School of Social Work and Assistant Professor, Marsal Family School of Education
