I finally got my hands on a Hellcat. A Dodge Charger Hellcat Widebody, to be exact. Mopars latest 2021 offering has 717hp, bumped up from 707hp in previous years. The same 650 lb/ft as previous years coming from the 6.2L supercharged V8. The Wide Body trim is meant to increase traction and improve handling. I’m sure grip has improved, however traction was still nowhere to be found even in normal mode.

Lets start with the part everyone cares about most, the drive. Dodge has essentially taken a $35,000 car and pumped it with steroids. To say that the Hellcat skipped legday would be an understatement. The Hellcat skipped the gym altogether, while continuously pumping power figures. The problem is, the car is basically filled with useless power since you’ll be lucky to finally hook up in third gear. First gear is nonexistent as far as power is concerned. Handling is sharper than I expected, although it is still a monstrously heavy sedan, so you should not expect to do much athletic driving.

The exterior looks much better with the Widebody option. It is particularly aggressive due to the overstated fenders that stick out about 3.5” on either side. The vents on the hood and front end are true vents that the engine desperately needs. 0-60 should be achieved in 3.6 seconds, although we were nowhere close since first gear essentially barbecued the rear tires. Maybe taking 717 horsepower in a RWD sedan to the iconic Mulholland Drive wasn’t the best idea. Although, we caught a shot of Jay Leno driving by in a european convertible that I was unable to identify as it zipped by.

Interior is almost not worth discussing since it was filled with cheap plastic and the outdated styling that has been due for an update for years. Although, SRT mode has some near features like the Line Lock to help you perform burnouts, and the Cooldown feature which I have not seen on any other car I have reviewed.

Watch the full review and let me know what you think. Is the Hellcat is powerful bargain at $76,000 or just a rental car with too much power to handle?
