This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2022 VW Taos small crossover. The Taos has a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. FWD models are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion AWD drive models, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Why the difference? Volkswagen thought driving enthusiasts would prefer a DCT so they added it to all AWD models offering a more engaging driving experience. AWD models come with independent rear suspension, which offers a smoother ride, better handling and does a great job absorbing the bumps in the road. FWD models have a torsion beam rear suspension. The Taos offers a clean exterior design, it borrows cues from the Atlas Cross Sport, while on the top trim an illuminated LED light bar in the grille reflects the style of the ID.4 electric SUV. In Canada, there are four available alloy wheel choices, standard 17” wheels, two 18” wheel choices and 19” wheels. There are eight available exterior colours to choose from to make this Taos your own. We have the top Highline trim for $36,695 CAD/$33,045 USD with a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. This AWD model comes with independent rear suspension. Our test model is $38,195 CAD, it has added features like 19” alloy wheels for $500 CAD and the Advanced Driver Assistance Package for $1,000 CAD. The Taos offers a clean interior, there is some high gloss black and grey trim, hard plastic as well as, leatherette trim. The different textures in the cabin work well together, creating a modern design. This top trim has everything you’ll need including, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, an 8” touchscreen, 10.25” digital driver display, an 8-speaker BeatsAudio system which sounds quite good, heated and ventilated front seats, 10-colour ambient lighting and leather seating surfaces. The Taos does not come with heated rear seats like the Seltos.
