On March 17, 1876, the United States Army commenced it's first attack of the Great Sioux War.
.
What ought to have been a decisive victory was an abysmal embarrassment.
.
The Army thought they were attacking Crazy Horse's village and instead hit an unsuspecting village of Northern Cheyenne, who then fled and joined with the Oglala Sioux of Crazy Horse and the Uncpapa Sioux of Sitting Bull.
.
The Great Sioux War or "Centennial Campaign" of 1876 couldn't have had a worse beginning. Events that unfurled that frigid March morning paved the way to the stalemate at the Batte of the Rosebud on June 17, and culminated in the US military catastrophe of the Battle of the Little Bighorn-- Custer's Last Stand-- on June 25th, 1876...
*** PS-- There are no authenticated photos of the warrior Crazy Horse. You will see a sketch in my presentation of "Crazy Horse" that was found online. At times I use photos etc that are public domain images to illustrate my slides. These are not always clearly marked. Thanks for understanding! ***
