This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 Ford Escape PHEV or Plug-in hybrid compact SUV. The 2024 Ford Escape PHEV has a 2.5L 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle powertrain matched to an eCVT with a combined 210 horsepower. It has a 14.4 kWh battery with up to 60 km/37 miles of range. The biggest negative of the 2024 Ford Escape PHEV is that it is only offered as a FWD model and its competitors are AWD. However, a FWD model with a good set of winter tires may be fine for many.
There is only one 2024 Ford Escape PHEV trim and it comes with plenty of standard features including a 13.2” touchscreen with SYNC 4, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 8” LCD instrument cluster, 6-speaker audio system, partial vinyl and cloth upholstery, heated steering wheel, heated front row seats, 8-way power driver seat, 4-way manual passenger seat and a power liftgate.
Available features in package or a la carte item include, a panoramic sunroof, a 10-way power driver’s seat, 6-way power passenger seat, a wireless charger, a head-up display, 360-degree camera, a 10-speaker B&O sound system and active park assist 2.0. The Escape PHEV does not have ventilated front seats or heated rear seats.
This 2024 Ford Escape PHEV is priced competitively at $49,194 CAD/$40,500 USD. It qualifies for the Canadian Federal rebate of $5,000 and any rebates in participating provinces. In the US, it qualifies for a tax credit up to $3,750. However, the $7,500 incentive may be available through leasing.
With a Level 2 charger, it will take about 3.3 hours to charge the Escape and with a Level 1, 10-11 hours.
The 2024 Ford Escape PHEV gets a combined 2.2Le/100km, 101 MPGe combined. Once the battery is depleted it gets a combined rating of 5.8L/100km, that’s 40 MPG. With a full tank and a full charge, it can travel 837 km/520 miles. It can tow 1500 pounds.
