I got caught in a downpour about 20 miles (32 km) from hard pavement. I had to get out quick and sit in a tiny half flooded pull out on the side of the road for hours while wave after wave of the storm pummeled the van. Eventually I was able to get a little further off the road and find a nice spot to camp for the evening.
