When does a sweet tooth become a problem?

In this episode of Insight, Kumi Taguchi explores the topic of emotional eating alongside guests who have personally grappled with it. Ryka, a personal trainer, shares his journey of overcoming emotional eating habits that began in his teenage years. Anita recounts her struggle with spending $300 a week on comfort foods, leading to overeating until she became physically ill. Darren, a father of four, opens up about his challenges with "storm eating" during times of stress or anger, sometimes bingeing up to 4-5 times in a day. Wilson's emotional eating intensified after a serious car accident left him bedridden, while Lyndi reflects on her history of diet culture and excessive calorie counting since childhood. Phillipa sheds light on the neurobiology of binge eating, and Louise challenges societal perceptions of food by highlighting its role as a source of comfort, even when not hungry.
