Found a dodgy van parked at the bottom of the road, so couldn’t resist testing the new hardware R7 running 150 international to see how it stacks up.

Runs 1 & 2) Previously, I’ve been running the K filter ON. However, with the testing and development of the RDD Stealth feature we realised the K Filter uses up a lot of extra processing time with the DSP. Since the 150 International has better filtering capabilities than any previous version of the R7, and based upon these results I’m recommending people to now run this firmware version in New Zealand with the K filter setting turned OFF.

Run 3) Radar Detector Detector (RDD) Stealth test run:

When I set up the R7 with the RDD setting turned on, I wanted to do a comparative test running in active RDD stealth mode, but still using Highway sensitivity.

In hindsight, I didn’t set this test run up perfectly as the radar alert is applied with quiet ride. So in the video you’ll only hear the initial quiet ride beeps in the RDD Stealth test run.

However, as a test the R7 performed really well even running in active RDD stealth mode. In previous testing against the spectre in active RDD mode (spectre on max sensitivity), the R7 could only be detected at very close range (i.e. with the R7 being less than 5m from the spectre).

So the results of this test run are also really encouraging, especially for people in Australia. As we can detect the van, well before it could ever detect our R7 even if it did have a spectre running on its most sensitive setting (the spectre also falses so much it realistically would not be used like that).
