Update 1/11/23: Petty GMS is now Legacy Motor Club

Jimmie Johnson has officially been announced as a new co-owner of Petty GMS and, best of all, he will be competing in select races for the team next year, starting with the Daytona 500! This is huge news for a team that was already on the rise and proved that they are serious about their future when Erik Jones drove the 43 car to victory lane at the Southern 500 a couple of months ago.

Jimmie Johnson has no ego, he doesn't need to own a race team just for the sake of being able to say that he owns a race team. Johnson's decision to buy into the team is a ringing endorsement of the team's potential for success in the future. He is also going to help improve Erik Jones and Noah Gragson as driver through his mentorship and provide critical feedback for the team to grow from behind the wheel next year. Furthermore, his mere presence with the team is going to make the team more attractive for corporate sponsors, in addition to bringing in Carvana on day one.

There is also the possibility that this could set up a move to Hendrick Motorsports' technical support program, given Johnson's history and warm relationship with Rick Hendrick. Finally, Jimmie Johnson is now the heir apparent to Richard Petty, one 7-time champion will now be able to hand over the throne of NASCAR to another 7-time champion who is universally beloved by the fanbase.

Thank you so much for watching, have a great day!
