The 2024 Suzuki S-Cross small SUV is now a lot more affordable thanks to the release of two new front-wheel drive (FWD) variants, which are looking to expand its appeal in a highly competitive segment, which sees the Kia Seltos, among others, in its crosshairs.

The 'third-generation' model has been available in Australia since September 2022, but it's worth noting it's really a heavy facelift of the second-gen version, which is more than a decade old. Either way, the S-Cross is exclusively powered by a 103kW/220Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine.

In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis gets up close and personal with the most expensive of the two new FWD variants, which is known as Plus. So, the question is, should you spend the $2500 extra to get all-wheel drive (AWD) instead? Or get a different small SUV altogether?
