This is Erin Khar speaking at her book launch event for her memoir, STRUNG OUT: and Other Lies That Nearly Killed Me. Khar writes in beautiful prose that flows. She's the opposite of pretentious. She's honest, raw, and compassionate for herself and others. I love her lack of judgment. This book is great for anyone with an addiction, or anyone who knows someone with one — so that's like everybody!
It's also about trauma, PTSD, suicidology, mental health and wellness. I relate to her feelings and the intensity of the experiences she's overcome. I recommend this book.

P.S. I also want to put in a plug for the venue: Books Are Magic is a beautiful bookstore in Brooklyn, NY. I rarely want to leave Manhattan for events but this place is lovely and so worth it. It's also easy to get to. As a native New Yorker, any borough can sound far away! Friends joke that I have everything I need in a 5-block radius. It's true!! But supporting the arts is worth it. And, I have to remind myself that it takes longer to go to the Upper East Side!! Haha. New Yorkers are funny.
