2022 Toyota Tundra Comes With No V-8 Engine. Ever Wondered Why?

The engine of the 2022 Toyota tundra is going to be a 3.5 liter twin turbo V-6 engine for a few key reasons.
Before we look at those reasons, let's examine why many initially thought the 2022 Tundra was going to have a V-8 engine. It comes from the spy photos of the interior of the vehicle which showed the red line of the tachometer at 5800 rpm.
People compared this to the same line on the 2021 version of the Tundra. The two lines are at the same point. Considering the 2021 model has a V-8 engine, many people presumed that the 2022 model was going to be the same.
These views were only strengthened when curious observers saw the Lexus LS with its 3.5 liter V-6 engine. This vehicle has its red line at the 6200 rpm mark and many came to the conclusion that the Tundra and the LS had to have different engines.
We now know that this isn’t true, thanks to the specs from a different Toyota vehicle.
The car we’re talking about is Toyota’s Land Cruiser 300 series. This car has a 3.5 liter twin turbo V-6 engine. Interestingly, its tachometer shows a red line on the 5800 rpm mark, which is identical to the red line on the 2022 Tundra spy photos.
This Land Cruiser shows that, contrary to the speculations, a V-6 engine can have a red line at 5800 rpm, and that Toyota is already using the V-6 for their vehicles coming out in the near future.

Another reason why we are certain that the 2022 Tundra has a V-6 engine is that the V-8 is being phased out.
The 5.7 liter V-8 is produced in two locations globally. One is near Alabama, and the other is in their Tahara factory in Japan. This is where a variety of Toyota and Lexus vehicles are produced.
There have been rumors that the Alabama factory is phasing out the V-8 in a couple of years, and this is despite receiving a lot of new investments. The Tahara factory has even announced, though unofficially, that in a few years it will stop production of the V-8.
If the two factories where the V-8 is exclusively produced are phasing out the engine, it does not make sense that a new model will be made with the V-8 in it. It makes sense considering Toyota’s increasing focus on hybrid and electric vehicles.
