Have you ever thought of why reinforced concrete is used in construction? Plain concrete has good compressive strength but it lacks tensile strength. Whereas, steel has good tensile strength. Combining these materials gives us reinforced concrete which has improved compressive and tensile strengths. Products obtained by combining materials of different properties to get desired material properties are called composites.

Composites play a vital role in structural engineering and in modern days, different types of composites are being developed continuously based on the requirements. In this video, we have explained what composites are, their need, classification and examples.
