If you want to bring down the superhero, cunning is great, but in the end it helps to pack a powerful punch. All the nefarious planning and cunning scheming is just that much easier when you can knock the target of all your rage into orbit with a single punch. When it comes to super soldiers like Erik Killmonger strength is a measurable thing that’s relatively easy to understand. The problem comes when you start moving up the strength scale into Marvel’s vaunted Class 100+ strength, how do you measure power beyond that. Class 100+ came as a way to talk about exactly how strong the Incredible Hulk really is. But the Hulk is hardly the only being in the Marvel Universe that can bench press a commercial airliner. Sure, Thanos can lift, bro, but is that the best way to determine his strength? Just what is strength to beings like Dormammu or Mephisto? Planet eating Galactus creates the question, “Just what is weight on that scale?” Then there are the ne’er do wells that amplify their strength via other means. Just like Tony Stark goes from futurist to superhero thanks to a suit of armor, villains have looked to other ways to boost their ability to stand up to the jock crowd over in superhero town.
