We've all hard of the placebo effect. But many times, placebo is misunderstood.

Most people think placebo means there is no physiological change. This couldn't be farther from the truth. What it really means is that the reason why we get a real physiological change is due to what we "believe."

Believe is in quotations because we aren't necessarily conscious of our beliefs, but our nervous system and brain are. The brain learns to be afraid or feel safe in regards to movement through a process known as predictive coding.

The unfortunate news is that on the flip side, nocebo can cause real negative physiological changes. This means if we believe a movement is dangerous, it has the potential to cause actual negative physiological effects.

Using this knowledge, we can progressively identify and expose ourselves to triggers to retrain the brain to feel safe.

We will be covering this in my new group movement coaching program.
