with Mark Gevisser, author of The Pink Line
For his new book The Pink Line, journalist Mark Gevisser traveled the globe to discover how LGBTQ equality has emerged as the new human-rights frontier. He describes the lessons he learned and the people he met – including a mixed Arab-Jewish couple in Tel Aviv; the Egyptian lesbian couple who came out during the Arab spring; and a group of transgender and non-binary youth in the American heartland. He also discusses how the new geopolitics of The Pink Line are playing out in different parts of the world, including in the US presidential campaign.
Mark Gevisser is a South African author and journalist whose previous books include A Legacy of Liberation: Thabo Mbeki and the Future of the South African Dream. His journalism and essays have been published in The Guardian, The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, Granta and many other publications. He lives in Cape Town.
We're pleased to welcome Shakespeare and Company as the official bookseller of this event. Since opening in 1951 it’s been a meeting place for anglophone writers and readers, becoming a Left Bank literary institution.
