The loco that started off the Railway Touring Company's "The Great Britain XV" megatour would be the one that took it home after a tour of England Scotland & Wales, as Black 5 no 44932 would haul the penultimate day of the GBXV from York to Kings Lynn via Lincoln , Peterborough & Downham Market, on Saturday 22nd April 2023

On a chase that involved 4 locations in the Fenland the Black 5 is first seen at Silt Rd Crossing outside March as it picks up speed away from the station

Unfortunately and infuriating a woman walked across the crossing infront of the camera as the train was in sight despite being shouted at clearly the train was coming but did not bother to wait until it had passed, only 13 seconds took place between her crossing and the train passing
As much as i had debated whether to include this shot or not i feel its worthy inclusion to highlight the extreme dangers faced on risking a life at a foot/level crossing as much as it is to faceshame the individual for her actions, hence the 'a near miss' added into the title

Back to the action and after a stop at Ely North Jc the train then headed along the branch to Kings Lynn which is certainly rare trackage for steam, seen nr Hilgay along Ten Mile Bank between Littleport & Downham Market 44932 is seen running along the single track through the flatlands both seen and heard from over 2 miles away

Following a pathing stop outside Watlington the 5 gets underway once more at Mill Road Level Crossing on the final sprint to Kings Lynn, her exhaust being heard all the way from the departure and sounding incredible on her approach!

Following arrival and detraining at Kings Lynn the Black 5 & Class 47 would take a trip back to Ely for reversal ahead of the final days run the next day, this allowed one more opportunity to capture 44932 at the lead as seen from Ely West Jc as it leads the consist towards North Jc prior to being hauled back to Kings Lynn for overnight stabling

Many thanks as the norm to Jack Pallister for his assistance in this chase day!
