Making friends is more difficult as an adult because the 4 ingredients to build new friendships are difficult to come across. This is why you need to make effort towards these 4 steps that can help you build and nurture new friendships, even as adults. The first building block to make friends is to meet people organically. It feels more trustworthy to your mind to meet new people randomly. But it's hard to meet new people when you are not in school or college. This is why joining some activity clubs, such as a hiking group or a book reading club can be very helpful.

The second building block for adult friendships is to have unplanned conversations. This helps you feel closer to the other person because spontaneous interactions require both people to make time for one another. This in turn makes you feel important and welcomed in their life.

Third step towards forming healthy #friendships is to spend time with one another. Physical proximity and emotional connectedness with friends require you to spend time with one another, so you can feel closer and meet each other's needs for belongingness. As adults, making time for friends can be hard, but is still very important.

Spending time with one another also gives you and your friends an opportunity to emotionally open-up and be vulnerable. This shared vulnerability helps you feel supported and builds trust that your friends have you back and can understand your needs and emotions.

#DrSuri shares an example to describe how to make room in your busy schedule to implement these four things, so you can continue to build healthy and meaningful friendships, even as an adult.
