Twisted Metal released in 2012 for the PlayStation 3. It was the first game in the series to be developed from the ground up by the new studio Eat, Sleep, Play comprised of members of the original team behind Twisted Metal 1, Twisted Metal 2, and Twisted Metal: Black.

After a long absence for the franchise, Eat, Sleep, Play were tasked with bringing a fully-featured Twisted Metal entry to the new, more powerful PlayStation 3 console.

At first the new entry was meant to be a small-scale multiplayer-only game, but as development went on, Sony decided it would best if it was a full-priced release with a single-player component.

Eat, Sleep, Play took that as an opportunity to do something more with the story than has ever been done before with the series with slick live-action cutscenes that go more in-depth on the characters. The only problem is, there were only 3 characters with any story. Sweet Tooth, Grimm, and Dollface.

Despite that, the gameplay was so sharp and thoughtfully crafted that it can make up for any lacking story content. Or can it? Let's find out.

Is Twisted Metal 2012 underrated and overhated?
