Salvage of a 27.5 tons heavy glacial erratic rock on a field near Hanover, Germany on April 17, 2015.
The erratic is a biotite gneiss that was transported from the ice masses of Scandinavia to the site near Ostermunzel during the Ice Age about 200,000 years ago. Such a boulder is actually very unusual in this region. Therefore, together with another foundling find on the Deister, it is assumed that the ice layer in the region of Hanover was much thicker than previously assumed.
