Today I am reviewing the RAM 1500 ECODIESEL engine and giving my thoughts and reactions as a heavy duty diesel mechanic. this engine has a range of problems and issues but does offer great fuel economy and towing if you know how to use the engine properly

The GOOD: Fuel Economy
this truck is very fuel efficient and if going to save you money, yet still give you plenty of power for towing and hauling heavy loads. the truck is very quiet for a diesel and most people aren't going to be able to tell the difference between the hemi and the Eco diesel. this truck can also be tuned to meet your driving style which is nice.

The BAD: After treatment system
All modern diesels are going to have an aftertreatment system and these systems need a little bit more knowledge and understanding in order to avoid issues. long story short you need to be driving this Eco diesel relatively long distances every day in order to maximize this engine. this truck is not really meant for city driving.

THE UGLY: Engine issues
The bottom ends on these engine are know for failing which is a huge issue. the engine is pretty much garbage once the main bearings let go. so if you hear any large knocking from the eco diesel I would be worried. next is the timing issues on these engine. usually the right hand exhaust cam fails resulting in engine damage once again.

Lastly the environmental issues, Chrysler has settled with the EPA for over 650 million dollars in damages because these eco diesel were not meeting the emissions they claimed. resulting in a full recall and in my opinion detuning these engine to make emissions protocols which kind of sucks. resulting in a lot of owners complaining about loss of power after this recall.

Hope you guys liked my little review!
